Other subreddits you might enjoy. You would have the choice whether you want to hook it up as an interface and have the extra functionality inside Pro Tools. I can't actually offer any insight into this as I've never done it before and never felt the need to. The way I've used them in the past was to just use it as an amp modeler and plug the output into the studio interface via a jack connector (Ie, not using the USB connection). However I'm still pretty sure that you can still just plug it into any version of protools despite not buying them together and it will still work fine. You will need to be using OSx for this though, as Windows doesn't support multiple interface devices in the one session simultaneously.
I was able to launch the Eleven Rack Editor without the iLok connected to my system and had full control of the unit using the software. Here is some info from Avid's Eleven Rack FAQ page: Q: When was the Eleven Rack Editor released? A: Version 1.0 was released January 23rd, 2014. Q: Why was the Eleven Rack window removed from Pro Tools 11? A: Users have overwhelmingly requested that we release a standalone version of the Eleven Rack Control window.
Pro Tools 11 was the right time for us to remove the Eleven Rack Control window and later deliver Eleven Rack Editor in its place. This change enabled us to deliver the much desired standalone functionality while only having to maintain one version of the software. Q: Where can I get the Eleven Rack Editor? A: Downloads are available from the Avid website at. Fill out the form to download the installer, and sign up to receive news and information whenever a new version is available. Q: Who can download the Standalone Editor? A: Anyone can download it after entering some basic info on the registration page.
Q: How much does the Standalone Editor cost? A: It's free! Q: What Operating Systems are supported? A: Eleven Rack Editor 1.0 requires a 64-bit operating system and supports Windows 7 and 8, as well as OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.x) and Mavericks (10.9.x). Q: What can I do if my computer doesn't support a 64-bit OS?
A: Use the version of Pro Tools (up through v10) that came with your Eleven Rack. (Pro Tools 11 includes a v10 license, and Pro Tools 10 installers can be found here.) Q: Is an iLok or iLok 2 required? A: No, though there are some PACE elements that are required.
If you get an error like 'iLok isn't present' you can download and install the iLok License Manager which will install the necessary items. Q: What versions of Pro Tools can it be used with? A: Eleven Rack Editor is officially supported with Pro Tools 10.3.7-10.3.8, and Pro Tools 11.1 or later. Q: Will Embedded Rigs still work?

In Pro Tools 11 this is done in I/O Setup and not within Eleven Rack Editor. To embed Rig setting in recorded audio: Choose Setup I/O Setup.
Select the Input tab. Set the 'Embed Setting From' menu to the input you plan to record through, such as 'Eleven Rig L/R'. In Pro Tools 10, there is no change. Embed Rig Settings is done via 'User Options' in Eleven Rack Control window. To embed Rig setting in recorded audio: Choose Menu Eleven Rack. Select User Options Set the 'Embed Setting From' menu to the input you plan to record through, such as 'Eleven Rig L/R'. Q: Can you open multiple standalone editors to control 2 or 3 Eleven Racks connected to the same computer?
Eleven Rack Editor will only launch as one instance, and is only capable of controlling one Eleven Rack at a time. Q: Is it a requirement to install the Eleven Rack drivers? You can download the latest drivers for your system here. Q: How can I tell what firmware version my Eleven Rack has?
